School This project completed in 2003 shows the
practices design philosophy working to its best . The existing Building
was a grade B listed Building which had been considerably altered.
We wanted to retain the feeling of strength , tradition and continuity
that the original building presented , but provide a modern back
drop for city living . This required careful consideration of the
context in which the new elements were to be placed in order that
the two styles of design worked together.
Our proposal was to remove all the non original additions and strip
back the building to its original form. This mainly consisted of
double height classrooms with single stories inserted in between
to form lavatories, duty rooms and offices . A glass enclosed lift
has been installed in the orginal staircase core.
The result is an exciting blend of modern light design juxtaposed
with the original strong and richVictorian design.
