About
MMA
The practice was established as McLay Milne Associates in 1985
by Alan Mclay and Stewart Milne. Starting out with only friends
house extensions the practice grew and now handles multi million
pound developments. Stewart retired in 1995 and the practice was
reformed as MMA Architects in 2002 with Alan McLay is the managing
Director and Doreen Young, who started with the practice as an apprentice
in 1988, is an associate.
The practice is involved in all types of building work from small
flat alterations to large commercial projects. Our main office is
located on the periphery of Edinburgh's New Town and we are pleased
to work on any projects within a day trip from Edinburgh. we also
have a branch office in East Lothian which allows easy access to
East and Midlothian, the Borders and the North of England.
Property Development and Investment Consultancy
McLay Milne Associates have gathered knowledge of the property
scene over the years, particularly in Edinburgh . Our aim is to
provide the best return on a particular development. With our knowledge
and experience, we are able to assess the development potential
of a particular site and to highlight the possibility of any grant
assistance that might be available from Local Authorities and Government
Agencies which may enable a project to proceed. We then can present
the proposal in the most effective way to gain Planning Consent.
Design and Drawing Service
We also provide a survey , design and drawings service only, in
order to obtain Planning and Building Control permission. We have
contacts with firms of Associated Building Consultants, such as
quantity surveyors, structural engineers, heating and ventilation
engineers and acousticians as well as builders, and we can assemble
a full design and build team where a project requires it.
We can also carry out on site inspection and certification services
where these are required either for funding agents such as Banks
and Building Societies or simply for your own peace of mind.
Computer Aided Design
All drawing and design work within the office is carried out on
computer. As well as providing a consistently high standard of drawn
and presentation work it keeps us at the leading edge of architectural
practice. It also enables us to provide information quickly and
efficiently and it is particularly effective where projects undergo
constant change or there are similar layouts involved. This results
in us being able to provide an extremely competitive service.
Design and Construction Management Regulations
In April 1995 new Health and safety legislation came into force
requiring that all persons causing building works to be carried
out appoint a planning supervisor to ensure design and construction
is carried out in accordance with good practice Where necessary
provide their clients with a minimum service to ensure that they
comply with the law. It should be emphasized however that this is
in addition to and entirely separate to the normal architects service.
While we are very busy at present we are always keen to find new
opportunities. If you have a project , no matter the size please
contact us and we will carry out an initial feasibility investigation
free of charge.
